Bitmine Immersion (BMNR), the Ethereum-focused firm chaired by crypto veteran Thomas Lee, has become the latest stock market sensation. The company’s shares surged over 3,000% in less than a week, topping $140 on Thursday, following the announcement of a $250 million capital raise aimed at buying ether (ETH).

Yet, while investor excitement is soaring, market observers are urging caution—pointing to Sharplink Gaming’s (SBET) recent 4,000% rally and subsequent 90% crash as a cautionary parallel.

BMNR Rockets on Ethereum Treasury Strategy

Originally known for its immersion-cooled crypto mining operations, Bitmine Immersion is now positioning itself as a public proxy for Ethereum, much like how Michael Saylor’s Strategy (MSTR) became a leveraged Bitcoin bet.

On July 1, BMNR revealed it had raised $250 million via private placement at $4.50 per share, attracting heavyweight institutional investors including:

  • Founders Fund
  • Pantera Capital
  • Galaxy Digital
  • Kraken
  • FalconX
  • Digital Currency Group (DCG)

The proceeds will be used to build an ETH treasury, making BMNR a direct public equity play on Ethereum’s performance.

The strategy echoes growing demand for crypto exposure through traditional financial instruments—especially as Ethereum ETF approval looms in the U.S.

BMNR Hits $140: A 3,000% Rally in Days

Since the announcement, BMNR shares have exploded from under $5 to above $140, pushing its market cap beyond $800 million.

While some view this meteoric rise as a reflection of Ethereum’s broader institutional momentum, others say BMNR’s valuation may already be pricing in aggressive expectations about ETH’s future gains.

Sharplink’s Crash Offers a Cautionary Tale

Investors excited by BMNR’s rally should look closely at Sharplink Gaming (SBET). Last month, Sharplink pivoted to an Ethereum treasury strategy under the leadership of Consensys co-founder Joseph Lubin, raising $450 million in the process.

SBET stock soared over 4,000%, but soon after, the hype cooled. Early private placement investors dumped shares for quick profits, and the stock crashed by over 90% from its peak—leaving retail traders with heavy losses.

This pattern of “buy the rumor, sell the news” around crypto treasury pivots is becoming increasingly familiar.

Final Thoughts: Ethereum Exposure or Speculative Bubble?

BMNR’s success underscores investor hunger for regulated, stock-based crypto exposure—especially Ethereum-focused plays. However, sharply parabolic moves driven by treasury headlines may not always be sustainable.

While Bitmine Immersion’s ETH accumulation could drive long-term value if Ethereum performs well, short-term traders should be wary of the post-funding selloff risk, as seen in the SBET example.

Boom or Bubble?

Bitmine’s ETH pivot may indeed signal a new frontier for Ethereum treasury models, but its 3,000% rise in a week serves as both a signal of opportunity and a warning. As always in crypto markets—volatility cuts both ways.
