Michael Saylor is once again pushing the boundaries of Bitcoin’s financial utility, this time by launching a $2 billion “Stretch” Preferred Stock (STRC) vehicle through his firm Strategy (MSTR). According to a report by NYDIG, this product offers a variable 9% dividend, drawing on Bitcoin’s historical performance—without giving direct crypto exposure.

Bitcoin as a Yield Engine—Without the Volatility

The STRC offering is not a crypto ETF or a spot Bitcoin product. Instead, it’s a money-market-style investment vehicle that uses Bitcoin’s historical annualized return—typically 3% to 4% minimum over any five-year period—to sustain high monthly payouts. The stock is designed to trade near $100 par, making it appealing to traditional finance (TradFi) investors looking for yield stability.

“This is Bitcoin, re-engineered for the TradFi yield crowd,” one NYDIG analyst wrote.

Massive Investor Demand Quadruples Offering

Initially capped at $500 million, demand for STRC has been so strong that Strategy expanded it to $2 billion. This demonstrates significant interest from investors hungry for stable, high-yield products that leverage crypto performance without the asset’s full risk profile.

Notably, Strategy holds $71.7 billion in Bitcoin against just $11 billion in liabilities, giving it a significant buffer to absorb market shocks while delivering consistent income.

What Makes STRC Unique?

  • No direct Bitcoin exposure means less regulatory friction
  • 9% variable yield targets outperforming Treasuries or money markets
  • Trades like a preferred stock, not a bond or token
  • Price stability near $100 mimics a money market fund
  • Backed by Bitcoin’s long-term appreciation potential, but avoids selling it

A Gateway for Wall Street Income Investors

This product may be a turning point for Bitcoin’s role in traditional portfolios. It bridges the gap between crypto upside and traditional risk tolerance, offering a cash-flow model based on Bitcoin’s capital growth—a structure rarely seen in the market.
