DeFi Market Surges to $153B as Ethereum Nears $4K and Restaking Gains Traction

DeFi Hits 3-Year High in TVL
The decentralized finance (DeFi) market has soared to $153 billion in total value locked (TVL) — its highest level since May 2022. This rally is being fueled by Ethereum’s price surge toward $4,000 and a wave of capital flowing into restaking protocols, signaling renewed institutional interest and DeFi growth.
This milestone marks the strongest performance for DeFi since the Terra collapse three years ago.
Ethereum dominates the DeFi landscape, holding nearly 60% of total TVL, according to DeFiLlama. The largest contributors are Lido and Aave, which together control more than $60 billion in locked assets.
ETH has surged over 60% in the past month, driven by institutional moves from firms like SharpLink Gaming and BitMine, both of which have invested billions in Ether.
This influx of capital has reinforced Ethereum’s position as the backbone of decentralized finance and enabled further adoption of restaking innovations.
Restaking Opens New Yield Opportunities
Restaking protocols are enabling users to earn base staking rewards plus additional yield through derivative tokens. Some DeFi strategies — such as looping USDC and sUSDC across Euler and Spark — are generating returns as high as 25% annualized, although these high yields may be temporary and incentive-based.
Restaking is emerging as a core driver of DeFi’s recent growth, as users seek compounding opportunities within established ecosystems.
While Ethereum leads, other blockchain ecosystems are also on the rise:
Solana: TVL up 23%, boosted by Sanctum and Jupiter
Avalanche: TVL up 33%
Sui: TVL up 39%
Bitcoin: TVL growth of 9%, despite new price highs
These numbers reflect growing confidence in multi-chain DeFi strategies and expanding innovation across ecosystems.
DeFi’s Next Phase Is Driven by Yield and Liquidity
With TVL climbing and ETH approaching $4,000, DeFi appears to be entering a new phase of institutional adoption, yield stacking, and ecosystem diversification. If momentum holds, the sector could soon surpass its previous all-time high.
