Bit Digital, a Nasdaq-listed crypto mining and staking company (ticker: BTBT), has officially shifted its entire digital asset treasury from Bitcoin to Ethereum, signaling a major shift in corporate crypto strategy. The firm now holds over 100,000 ETH, positioning itself among the largest public Ethereum holders globally.

Why Bit Digital Chose Ethereum Over Bitcoin

Bit Digital’s strategic pivot comes amid rising interest in Ethereum’s ecosystem. The company sold 280 BTC, currently valued at more than $30 million, and injected an additional $173 million raised from a recent equity offering to fund its ETH purchases. As a result, the company’s ETH holdings surged from 24,434 ETH at Q1 2025 to approximately 100,603 ETH in July 2025.

“We believe Ethereum has the ability to rewrite the entire financial system,” said the company’s CEO.

Ethereum’s Staking and Tokenization Drive the Shift

The move highlights growing confidence in Ethereum’s long-term value, largely due to its proof-of-stake model, programmable smart contracts, and growing role in real-world asset tokenization. Bit Digital aims to leverage Ethereum’s staking yield and its expanding use in on-chain financial products, including tokenized equities and stablecoins.

Ethereum currently leads the tokenized asset market, with over $4.6 billion in real-world assets hosted on its blockchain — representing nearly 90% of the entire tokenization ecosystem.

Market Reaction and Industry Trends

Following the announcement, BTBT stock surged over 21%, reaching $3.50 per share, while the company’s market capitalization climbed from $594 million on July 2 to more than $833 million.

Bit Digital joins a growing list of U.S.-based firms pivoting toward Ethereum-centric treasuries, diverging from the Bitcoin-dominated approach seen in earlier years. Analysts suggest this is part of a broader trend where Ethereum becomes the preferred blockchain for institutional-grade finance.

Final Thoughts

Bit Digital’s Ethereum treasury strategy marks a turning point for crypto treasury management. With Ethereum’s dominance in staking, smart contracts, and tokenization, more publicly traded companies may follow suit. Bit Digital’s aggressive ETH accumulation reflects a growing belief that Ethereum’s utility and innovation will outpace Bitcoin’s store-of-value narrative in the years ahead.
