Quantum-ready protection and upgraded user experience lead the latest innovations from the industry’s top wallet makers
Two of the world’s most trusted crypto hardware wallet makers — Ledger and Trezor — have launched their next-generation devices for 2025, offering advanced security, improved usability, and preparation for the post-quantum computing era.
Paris-based Ledger introduced its Ledger Nano Gen5, while Prague-based Trezor unveiled the Trezor Safe 7, reflecting how the competition for secure self-custody solutions continues to evolve as the digital asset industry matures.
Ledger drops “hardware wallet” label, unveils Nano Gen5 signer
In a significant branding shift, Ledger has moved away from the term “hardware wallet,” now calling all its devices “Ledger signers.” The company says this change reflects its broader mission to simplify crypto transaction security for everyday users.
The Ledger Nano Gen5 features a larger touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and integration with the new Ledger Recovery Key service. Priced at $179, the device aims to deliver a premium experience at an accessible price point.
A company spokesperson explained that “the bigger screen enables a more intuitive interface and clearer transaction verification, reducing the risk of blind signing.”
Ledger has also redesigned its software suite, renaming Ledger Live to Ledger Wallet and introducing Ledger Multisig, a new feature aimed at improving multisignature security.
Trezor Safe 7 debuts as the first quantum-ready wallet
Meanwhile, Trezor’s Safe 7 introduces a dual-chip architecture using the auditable TROPIC01 chip and an EAL6+ secure element, making it Trezor’s first quantum-ready device. The wallet includes Bluetooth connectivity, wireless charging, and a touch display, retailing for 249 euros.
According to Danny Sanders, Trezor’s Chief Operating Officer, “The Safe 7 is technically capable of receiving post-quantum updates when the time comes, ensuring users remain protected well into the future.”
While both companies have introduced groundbreaking models, older wallets remain fully supported. As the crypto industry braces for the long-term challenges of quantum computing and increasing user security expectations, Ledger and Trezor’s 2025 devices mark a clear step toward the future of digital asset protection.
