New Ethereum Layer-2 token aims to bridge traditional finance and DeFi while rewarding early participation
Perpetuals-focused decentralized exchange Lighter has officially launched its native cryptocurrency, the Lighter Infrastructure Token (LIT), marking a major step in its effort to connect traditional financial markets with decentralized finance. The token launch includes a significant 25% airdrop for early users and introduces a utility-driven model that goes beyond simple governance.
LIT Token Distribution and Airdrop Details
The total LIT token supply is split evenly between two major groups: 50% allocated to the ecosystem and 50% reserved for the team and investors. As part of the ecosystem allocation, early participants received an immediate airdrop that converted 12.5 million reward points earned during 2025 into LIT tokens. This airdrop represents 25% of the fully diluted token supply, while the remaining ecosystem tokens are earmarked for future incentives, partnerships, and expansion.
Team and investor allocations are subject to a one-year lockup followed by three years of linear vesting, reducing short-term supply pressure and aligning long-term incentives.
Unlike many crypto assets, LIT is deeply embedded in Lighter’s trading infrastructure. It is required for trade execution, data verification, and staking, with higher service tiers demanding larger LIT stakes. Users and data providers also pay fees in LIT to access verified market data, reinforcing reliability and risk management across the platform.
All platform revenue is fully trackable on-chain, enabling public verification. Lighter may reinvest earnings into ecosystem growth or conduct token buybacks, depending on market conditions.Lighter-based perpetual contracts have averaged $2.7 billion in trading volume over the past seven days, positioning the platform among the largest perpetuals DEXs globally and highlighting growing demand for its infrastructure-focused approach.
