Japanese firm pushes deeper into Bitcoin income generation and domestic crypto media

Metaplanet, a Tokyo-based hospitality and real estate group turned Bitcoin treasury company, is accelerating its crypto strategy by launching two new subsidiaries in Miami and Tokyo. The move underscores the company’s dual focus on Bitcoin income generation abroad and domestic crypto media expansion in Japan.

Metaplanet Income Corp. in the US

The company announced the formation of Metaplanet Income Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary in Miami with an initial capital of $15 million. According to its disclosure, the unit will focus on Bitcoin income strategies and derivatives trading, creating structural separation between Metaplanet’s long-term Bitcoin holdings and active revenue operations.

Management will include CEO Simon Gerovich, alongside Bitcoin strategists Dylan LeClair and Darren Winia. The firm noted the initiative is expected to have minimal impact on consolidated earnings for the fiscal year ending December 31, but will strengthen its operational framework for crypto-related business.

Bitcoin Japan Inc. to Drive Domestic Expansion

In Tokyo, Metaplanet unveiled Bitcoin Japan Inc., headquartered in Roppongi Hills, to oversee its domestic Bitcoin media, events, and community engagement. The entity will manage Bitcoin.jp, the Japanese edition of Bitcoin Magazine, and the Bitcoin Japan Conference. Directors Gerovich and Yoshihisa Ikurumi will lead the effort to expand Japan’s Bitcoin ecosystem.

Strengthening Bitcoin Treasury Position

The expansion comes as part of Metaplanet’s broader Bitcoin income business, launched in late 2024, and follows plans to raise 204.1 billion yen ($1.4 billion) through an international share offering to grow its BTC reserves.

With 20,136 BTC on its balance sheet, Metaplanet is now the sixth-largest Bitcoin holder globally, according to BitcoinTreasuries data. The company trails only major US players such as MicroStrategy, which leads the pack with 638,985 BTC worth over $74 billion.

Top 10 Bitcoin holders

By combining income-focused operations in the US with media and community-building in Japan, Metaplanet is positioning itself as a key global player in Bitcoin adoption. The expansion highlights a shift from passive accumulation toward active integration of Bitcoin into revenue and cultural channels, strengthening its presence in both global and domestic markets.
