Japanese investment powerhouse Metaplanet has announced plans to raise ¥555 billion ($3.73 billion) in a bold move to accelerate its Bitcoin acquisition strategy. This capital injection will come through a new stock offering of perpetual preferred shares, offering up to 6% annual dividends depending on market conditions.
Metaplanet Targets 210,000 Bitcoin by 2027
The company, often referred to as “Asia’s Strategy” for its aggressive approach to digital assets, has set an ambitious goal: to accumulate 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. This initiative reflects a growing trend among institutional players using their balance sheets to gain long-term exposure to Bitcoin.
“We believe that introducing Bitcoin-backed preferred shares represents a pioneering effort,” Metaplanet said in a statement.
This move follows a broader surge in corporate Bitcoin accumulation, with firms globally holding over $93 billion in BTC as part of their treasury reserves.
Bitcoin Price Could Reach $132,000 by 2025
According to macroeconomic data models, Bitcoin’s price could surpass $132,000 before the end of 2025, driven by its correlation with the expanding global M2 money supply. The continued accumulation by firms like Metaplanet is seen as a key upward pressure on BTC’s long-term value.
Strategic Timing Amid Fiscal Shifts
As the U.S. government prepares to resume fiscal negotiations in September, investors are bracing for policy shifts that may influence inflation, interest rates, and asset markets. Analysts suggest that fiscal uncertainty has historically acted as a catalyst for hard assets, with Bitcoin increasingly fitting that role.
The next major monetary catalyst for Bitcoin could emerge as early as September, when Congress reconvenes after Labor Day.
Preferred Shares Pegged to BTC Strategy
This innovative financing method mirrors similar efforts from other Bitcoin treasury firms, including new BTC-backed securities with structured dividend models. These instruments appeal to both traditional investors seeking yield and crypto-savvy stakeholders betting on Bitcoin’s long-term trajectory.
As Metaplanet continues its aggressive BTC strategy, it is helping to reshape the role of corporate treasuries in the digital asset era—cementing Bitcoin as a central pillar of institutional capital allocation.
