President says Democratic control of Congress could derail his agenda, including key crypto legislation
US President Donald Trump has warned fellow Republicans that losing the upcoming US midterm elections could result in another impeachment, raising concerns about political gridlock and the future of his policy priorities, including cryptocurrency regulation.
Speaking to House Republicans, Trump said that if the party fails to retain control of Congress, Democrats would “find a reason” to impeach him. He emphasized that winning the midterms is critical to protecting his presidency during the final two years of his term.
Recent polling shows Trump’s approval rating at 42%, with voters citing concerns over the rising cost of living and internal GOP divisions, including disputes over the handling of the Epstein-related files. Betting markets currently place nearly 80% odds on Democrats winning the House.
All seats in the House and one-third of the Senate are up for election in November. If Republicans lose one or both chambers, it could stall major legislation, including a highly anticipated crypto market structure bill designed to clarify regulatory oversight of digital assets.
Some Democrats have already suggested impeachment over Trump’s crypto-related activities, including a private dinner hosted for top holders of his memecoin. Resistance has also emerged within the GOP, particularly over disagreements tied to banning central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).
Trump was impeached twice during his first term, in 2019 and again in January 2021. In both cases, the Senate acquitted him. While Democrats may regain the House, projections still give Republicans a 67% chance of retaining the Senate, which could again block removal from office.
If Democrats gain control, analysts expect heightened political confrontation, potentially weakening Trump’s legislative agenda and intensifying debate around crypto regulation.
